This year, PHAROS will co-host workshops on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), Blue Schools, and industry collaboration initiatives. Feature: The Silent Crisis – Understanding the New Threat of Ocean Acidification
Ocean acidification, often dubbed the “evil twin” of global warming, is an escalating environmental crisis with profound implications for marine ecosystems and human livelihoods. This phenomenon, driven by excess CO2 absorption by our oceans, threatens to disrupt the delicate balance of marine life, coral reefs, and global fisheries.
🌊 Impact on Marine Life: Shell-building organisms, coral reefs, and fish species face severe physiological and behavioral challenges.
🌏 Global Implications: Polar and tropical regions are particularly vulnerable, with cascading effects on ecosystems and food security.
